Over the last two years Weston Homes and Columbia Threadneedle have been developing plans for the regeneration of Anglia Square to provide an improved shopping centre with a larger cinema, and restaurants, cafes and bars operating through the day and into the evening, together with over 1200 new homes and large public spaces as well as a new hotel and community facilities. This will bring opportunities for a wider range and increased number of jobs on the site, also acting as a catalyst for boosting the local economy.
Weston Homes and Columbia Threadneedle have submitted a ‘hybrid’ planning application to the City Council.
This application consists of an outline element for the redevelopment of nearly the whole of the current Anglia Square site (the shops between Sovereign Way and the flyover are outside the application boundary), together with a detailed element for Phase 1 of the scheme, and the tower. There are four proposed Phases of the development, and so further “Reserved Matters” (or detailed) applications would follow this one for each of Phases 2, 3 and 4.
