We’ve heard very clearly that Anglia Square is a much-valued destination for many residents. Our challenge is to seek to maintain what’s special, whilst also delivering the benefits we spoke about in December. That’s new homes, additional and more flexible retail space that supports a diverse offering, more public spaces in streets and squares and greater connectivity through Anglia Square and with the surrounding area.
We’ve also heard a great deal from people ambitious for any redevelopment of Anglia Square to deliver high quality, lasting architecture. Ultimately, such a judgement is subjective, but our team have been working very hard to develop and refine an approach to the scheme which will deliver a positive and lasting contribution to the diverse architecture of Norwich, whilst respecting the City’s character and history.
The potential to improve the leisure offer has been welcomed and we’re now moving ahead with plans to better integrate the cinema within Anglia Square while we also explore how and where additional leisure and community space should be provided.
